Airman & Family Readiness - School Liaison

school liason

Air Force School Liaisons (SL) help parents ease the impact of the mobile military lifestyle for children and youth. The SL provides you information prior to your move, upon arrival, while stationed at your installation and when you prepare to depart for your next duty station. One of the important roles of the SL is to connect families, schools, and the military community to facilitate the educational transition and  academic experiences of children and youth.  These education professionals are located at all major Air Force installations and serve as a “link” between military families and schools. The SL’s level the playing field for military children by ensuring maximum educational opportunities for academic success.

Below is a list of some of the specific ways the SL can assist military families:

  • Assist with information about the local public school districts as well as school information at the next assignment.

  • Ensure awareness of other educational options (e.g., home schooling, private schools, charter schools and cyber/virtual schools)

  • Ensure school staff (e.g., classroom teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators) are aware of the unique issues impacting military children (e.g., deployments, frequent moves, BRAC, combat, etc.)

  • Monitor any significant changes in school demographics that may affect federal funding formulas to local education agencies

  • Monitor federal and state legislation that might affect the educational opportunities of military children

  • Assist in rectifying problems that cannot be resolved using the school channels

The School Liaison is located in the Airman & Family Readiness (Bldg. 1249) at 2160 Kenly Ave.  Office hours are from 0730 to 1630 Monday through Friday. Please call 671-3722 for appointment.
