Transition Assistance

Sooner or later all service members will transition from military life to civilian life; i.e., retire or separate. It is important for every service member separating or retiring from the military to take full advantage of the services offered through Transition Assistance. At least 90 days prior to retirement or separation every service member must attend a mandatory pre-separation counseling session. Without this briefing on the DD Form 2648, the separation or retirement process cannot be completed.

  • Pre-separation Counseling - Mandatory for all military personnel separating or retiring. Must be completed at least 90 days prior to departing base
  • Three-Day TAP – Optional three-day course taught by the Texas Workforce Commission every month on every aspect of the transition process.  Spouse are welcome.
  • Disabled TAP  -  A special session used to cover disability benefits and how to apply for them
  • Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET) - Explanation of the use of this document
  • Discovery Resource Center – Resources for job search via computer, job announcements and job application forms plus relocation information
